Murder in 1965
« on: November 27, 2019, 11:27:49 PM »
hi, I am trying to locate any living relatives I may have on my fathers side. My grandfather was Thomas Dunlop, born in Hamil St in 1917 and moved to scotland.  He was one of 8 and had a brother Francis born in 1909. From what I have found Francis had a son, Brendan who I think, was born in 1939 but was unfortunately murdered in 1965 at the age of 26 and at the time their address was Madrid Street. My father and his siblings have all passed leaving no children, with the exception of myself and two brothers in our family line. I would really like to find if we have any other family out there. My grandfathers other siblings were: Mary, John, James, Charlotte, Jenny & Joseph. Any help or information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Lorna

Mrs Sarah Dunlop, Stitcher. Same address 1960.  Francis might have past between the dates.
              Hope this helps, best regards.

Possible marriage between Francis Dunlop and Sarah Quinn was registered in Belfast on 22.4.1935. You can view the original certificate on-line on the GRONI website, using the “search registrations” option:

https://geni.nidirect.gov.uk

You will need to open an account and buy some credits. It costs £2.50 (sterling) to a view a certificate.

Births within the past 100 years aren’t on-line. You need to go into PRONI in Belfast to search for births within the past 100 years, marriages within 75 and deaths within 50.

The murder was reported in the Belfast Telegraph of 23rd November 1965. Brendan died 11.10.1865 in Co. Louth. His death certificate can be viewed free here:

https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_returns/deaths_1965/04238/4086225.pdf

There was a Francis Dunlop death in Belfast on 23.8.1960 aged 71. That seems a bit old for your Francis.

This looks to be Francis and his siblings in 1911:

Hi Elwyn,
Nice work on your information, finding the date in the paper should help.
Did see the death for Francis, checked who else was with him but not sure
as you said the age stands out.

                 Best regards, Billy.
