Looking for Pendleton,s
« on: January 05, 2020, 12:55:25 PM »
Hi

Currently doing family tree of my husbands and looking for Pendleton.

Discovered my husbands grandmother Bertha Pendleton ( niblock married name) father was married before and had three sons to his first wife Ellen (Marshall) and possible three daughters the sons were George, William and Samuel and daughters Ellen Mary and Elizabeth. In the 1901 census it shows William john the father living in Gaye street Belfast . In 1901 William john Pendleton widower married spinster Bertha mccourtney and in 1902 Bertha Pendleton was born to them ( my husbands grandmother ) lookin for any information on the siblings of Bertha as this was a discovery we knew nothing about these half brothers and sister. Would love to find out more.

Many thanks

Hils

Have literally just glanced at this, but from previous experience know that Pendleton is the same surname as Pentland and other variants, so the George Pentland living in the same street in 1901 is immediately interesting (maybe his father?.. the name and occupation match the father's details in the 1901 marriage to Elizabeth McCourtney).

Tracking forward, here are the 3 daughters in 1911 with a Marshall aunt:

Here is the McCreedy marriage:

Of the sons, George died in 1891, William died in 1893, here is Samuel with another Marshall aunt in 1901:

And in 1911 still with her (maybe informally adopted since mother Ellen Marshall died the same day Samuel was born), also what looks like the Marshall father in the household:

Looks like a marriage for Ellen Pendleton in 1919, cousin Elizabeth Gray was a witness:
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1919/09680/5510830.pdf

And a matching address to the 1919 record (11 Clandeboye Street) indicates that this was Mary's marriage in 1914:
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1914/09845/5574935.pdf

The 1918 Belfast street directory on the Lennon Wylie website confirms that the occupier of 11 Clandeboye Street was their Marshall aunt: 11. Gray, Mrs. Mary Jane

Couple of births for Thomas Whiteside and Mary Pendleton...

Edward:

Very extensive information provided in recent days at the link below, so no point in duplicating effort:
