I was over in Australia in October. We drove up to Surfers Paradise and stayed overnight in different towns on the way up and down. A beautiful Country. Great food as well. 1698 miles we travelled (a couple of detours on the way)from Sydney to Surfers Paradise. I was asking my friends to check how big Northern Ireland was...97 miles I honestly couldn't believe it. I was a little taken aback. It was something I hadn't really thought about. We moan if we have to drive to Dublin lol...I was back home before those awful fires hit. It was really sad to see on TV. Hope you Aussies are all ok.
I was able to negotiate the airports and was very pleased with myself. Not bad for a old girl.
Good on you McNamee for sharing your travel experiences in Australia.
I have been in Australia since 1964 and have travelled/served throughout Australia and parts of South East Asia.
We have travelled many times by road from Victoria to Far North Queensland mainly by the Pacific Highway which is the more scenic route whcih provided the opportunity to visit the many lovely coastal towns along the way. We have also travelled the Newell Highway but it is more of a direct route used mainly by the truckies and sometimes without warning you can come across a cattle drive along the so called Long Paddock.
Our last trip was from Victoria to Queensland via the Pacific Highway and we enjoyed visiting several coastal towns along the way. At night we would stay at a motel and visit the local sports or services club for a meal which is always good value.
The sports or services clubs are always good value for meals and entertainment and the bigger the town the bigger the clubs.
Some of our favourites are the Twin Towers Services Club, the Tweed Heads Bowls Club.
