Filling in gaps in family tree
« on: February 04, 2020, 09:33:34 PM »
I am attempting to find information about my grandfather William James Quinn siblings and with the willingness and expertise of forum members have gained information so far about two, Henry and Wilson Foster Quinn.
Next of my hit list is David Quinn born 7/5/1889 in Lisdoart Co. Tyrone
Married Agnes Gordon 26/5/1912
They had a male child (name not captured) 19/10/1912
David died 5/2/1941. The informant was my Grandfather
I believe Agnes died 5/9/1974 and is buried with her brother Samuel.
Any hints, tips or additional information about them would as always be gratefully received.

     Geraldine,

I don't know if you noticed but the October 1912 birth was at 51 Lisburn Rd (with the familyís usual address being 11 Brennan St). 51 Lisburn Rd was Belfast Workhouse (now the City Hospital). Hopefully they went there just to access the infirmary.  But whatever the reason it suggests they couldnít pay for private facilities. (God Bless the NHS, eh!)

Looking at the street directory for 1918 they had left Brennan St by then:

Burial record for David Quinn in Dundonald Cem. 33 Beechpark St. Also buried there: Wm John Quinn d 1913, Mgt 1917, James 1915 & George 1916. Canít say their relationship to David without more research.

Agnes looks to be in the City Cemetery, Glenalina extension, together with Samuel who died in 1971.

I don't see a probate file for David in 1941. If Agnes left a will in 1974 it wouldnít be on the PRONI site. You would need to go into PRONI and look up the Wills calendars. (The PRONI staff will show you how to do that). The files are indexed by year of probate, not date of death. Sometimes probate wasn't granted for some years after the death, so if you donít find a file in 1974 check at least 5 years afterwards. (I have seen cases where probate wasnít granted for 30 years, usually because the executor didnít or couldnít deal with the estate).

Hi Elwyn
George was his brother
Margaret his mother
William John and James were his nephews
I was just curious  if David and Agnes had any other children
Thanks for your help

I don't see any more children after 1912. Certainly up to about the mid 1920s. GRONI takes the birth records to 4th Feb 1920 and rootsireland a bit more beyond that.
