Irwin/Erwin
« on: March 10, 2020, 06:23:38 PM »
My line shipped from Belfast to the Americas in 1848.  Iím looking for any Irwin or Erwin folks or just information on this side of my family.  The patriarch, my 4x great grandfather, was Arthur Irwin/Erwin, who married a Jennie Hutchinson. They had Thomas, Malcolm, Jane, Samuel, and Ann J, while in Ireland.

Again, any insights would be welcome.

have you more information please, eg the relative irish birth date from their entries in American census etc
I tried the family search.org special collection for famine emigration https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:KDXD-65Y

tried https://www.ancestryireland.com
ARTHUR   IRWIN   1794   father ARTHUR   Antrim

tried
The Tithe Applotment books which are in two parts. the actual record gives just name location and taxable value of building or land.

in the 6 counties via the http://www.irishgenealogyhub.com contain 747 entries for Erwen Erwin(e), Irwin(e)(s) etc eg the Arthurís include
Irwin, Arthur-Townland: Dunturky Year: 1834-Ballynure-Antrim
Irwin, Arthur-Townland: Oughley Year: 1834-Saintfield -Down-
Irwin, Arthur, Jr., Esq.-- Townland: Cargaduff Year: 1825-Keady-Armagh
Irwin, Arthur, Jr., Esq.-- Townland: Tivnamara Year: 1825-Keady-Armagh

in the 26 counties 39 Erwin ,1 Erwins, 513 Irwin, 2 Irwins could be more looking for Arthur

Irwin   Arthur      Killaspugbrone   Sligo   1824
Irwin   Arthur   Oakfield   St John's   Sligo   1824
I looked for other variants without success
my conclusion your Arthur might be among the above his age at emmigration 1847/8 might help

I suggest strongly you look for all the irish spellings in https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/
if you find approx. year of birth for the children

Wow! I canít believe all that youíve found! Thatís so amazing!

I canít thank you enough for all your work looking into this, for me, a complete stranger  ::)

Oddly enough, I think the first part might be closest as Iíve recently found out his sonís grave said he was born in Ballynure. And that Arthurís Belfast News-Letter obituary said he was of Crumlin and Ballynure.

Iím going to look more into you all the information you gave me, as well as the website you provided. All the above which I canít thank you enough for.

Again, thank you for your time and your effort.  It is greatly appreciated :)

A match of father and son names in this 1865 record of marriage to a Maggie McMurtry:
