George Orridge lived at 37/39 Shankill Road with the Morris family.  He died in 1875 and is listed as a widower.Does anyone know the identity of his wife?  He did not marry any of the Morris family.  George Morris married his sister Anna/Hanna Orridge.

The only one I can see so far that comes anywhere near to fitting the profile is the one living in Amblecote, Staffordshire in the 1851 England census, the age of 39 is in the ballpark, and there's a match on occupation (glass cutter). The wife in that record is listed as Anna. Also in the household are son-in-law and daughter-in-law John and Emma Cooper and an Irish lodger called Matthew Briscoe, a glass cutter.  George is in the 1861 census as well (wife 'Ann'), but I can't see them in 1871.

The only Orridges I can find in local directories are in:

- Bradshaw's General and Commercial Directory 1819 (under the Town of Belfast): Orridge, Ralph, glass-cutter, 16 Smithfield.
- Pigot's 1824 Directory (under Glass Cutters): Orridge, Frances, 21 Smithfield

If there are any images posted above that are important to you, take your own copy - I cannot guarantee they will appear indefinitely.

Very many thanks to you for reply.  George Orridge died in 1875 in Belfast. His father Ralph had glass cutting business in Berry Street, Belfast till his death and this business was taken over by his widow Frances (nee Wells from Wigan) till her death of cholera in 1834 in Belfast.  They hadmarried in Grappenhall, Cheshire  on 16th October 1803.

hi George R Morris,  your well researched information is very difficult to add anything too .So very well done. I will try to add something.
part 1 the glass cutter
I was intrigued with Ralph having the unusual occupation a glass cutter in 1819, wondering   was it for church stained or plain glass, or for domestic and commercial window panes etc   but probably flint glass.   A very brief intro to relevant irish glass in belfast is https://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/northern-ireland/raise-a-glass-to-a-hole-new-look-at-belfasts-forgotten-past-28611634.html

George Morris, Born 1806 Newcastle-on-Tyne came to work for Ralph Orridge in Belfast and married his daughter Anna Orridge.  Ralph Orridge Morris was their son.  All are buried inA567 & 568 in the City Cemetery.  (Grave bought in 1875, I have the grave papers)  However George Orridge's Death Certificate shows him as a widower at his death in 1875, but I do not know where his wife is buried or her identity.) Your research about the Orridge's in Amblecote (where there now is a glass museum!) with wife Ann Cooper is a great help.
