All the addresses coming back so far, are for a specific area of East Belfast (eg. Denorrton Park - which was the home of Robert's parents Robert senior and Isabel - Holywood Road, Circular Road).

  Oh boy,  you got me now,  somewhere in my records I think I had Neill married to a Mary Preston ?.

  Interesting info on Margaret Jane, I wonder if my cousin Donald McConnell, son of Edith Montgomery, first stayed with her when he went to S.Africa to live in Joburg.

   The question is who was the Aunt Jane my father referred to on Agincourt.?

  As for Fred, I have him married to a Jennifer McHarg, 24-12-1910 clifton st presby. he would have been 21-22 at the time and working in the Yard as a  Plater.  No sign of kids.

THIS "aunt jane "   thingie still bugs me, shes living at 94 agincourt ave from 1943 as mrs j brown ?

 now if my da was calling her aunt jane she must have been married to either James, Charles, or Ernest brown sons of robert and sarah. and cant have been margaret jane the sister. unless shes bluffing and calling herself mrs instead of miss.

I suspect that it may simply have been Frederick's wife Jennie Meharg.

When Frederick and Jennie had their daughter Edith Gladys in 1915, their address was 47 Carmel Street, in fact, from the street directories available online, it looks like they lived there a while, for Frederick was listed at 47 Carmel Street up to the 1932 directory.

'Brown, Mrs. J.' appears against 94 Agincourt Avenue from the 1939 directory onwards. At this point, you should note that Carmel Street and Agincourt Avenue actually intersect at no. 94, ie. 94 Agincourt Avenue is on the corner of Carmel Street.

Now this is where it gets interesting.  The name of the persons occupying: (1) 47 Carmel Street in the next directory after 1932; and (2) 94 Agincourt Avenue in the previous directory before 1939... are in fact one and the same person, it's someone with a quite distinct name and occupation combination.  To put it another way, here are the two year listings for each address: 

Agincourt Avenue
1932: 94. Megary, T., stone cutter
1939: 94. Brown, Mrs. J.

Carmel Street
1932: 47. Browne, Fred., plater
1939: 47. Megarry, T., stone cutter

From where I'm sitting, it looks like Frederick and Jennie swapped houses with Mr Megarry some time between 1932 and 1939, with Jennie's name going onto the rent book during that process. That sort of thing did happen, I've encountered it before.  You can view the two years here yourself:

  It  never occured to me that she could be Fred,s wife. She was still there in 1960. I thought they would have moved to Bangor,but maybe not. The house, I knew,

 was on the corner and was a big attic house. Next door at #92 was W.Montgomery, who I think was William Francis.

I understand about the names on the rent books as my grandmother Lizzie used it and I know my cousin George Brown,s family lived at #31 Carmel st , in the 50s but are not listed.
