Hoey Family from Newtownards Road
« on: March 29, 2020, 04:45:49 PM »
John Joseph Hoey, spirit dealer, lived at 154 Newtownards Road, Belfast,  in 1877.  His daughter Anne Jane was born 23/7/1877.
I am searching for living descendants of this family - important.

Seanog,

The child born on 23.7.1877 looks to have been named Josephine, not Ann Jane.

2 probate abstracts from the PRONI wills site:

Letters of Administration of the personal estate of John Joseph Hoey late of 172 Newtownards-road Ballymacarrett County Down Innkeeper deceased who died 19 October 1882 at same place were granted at Belfast to Jane Hoey of 172 Newtownards-road Ballymacarrett the Widow.

Letters of Administration of the personal estate of Jane Hoey late of Ballymacarrett County Down Widow who died 13 November 1885 at same place were granted at Belfast to Grace Thompson (Wife of James Thompson of Randalstown County Antrim Farmer) the Curatrix of the Minor Children. (Limited.)

Jane was 36 when she died and clearly left some young children. The informant for her death was her brother Peter Thompson of 71 Preston St, Hulme, Manchester.

Searching the GRONI births index finds the following HOEY children, all born in east Belfast:

Mary Ann 27.2.1871
Samuel 28.12.1872
Josephine 23.7.1877
John Joseph 13.12.1881

Thompson family in Ballygrooby, Randalstown in 1901:

John Joseph Hoey and his wife, Josephine Thompson, both died in their 30's leaving a young family.
The children were fostered by their grandparents, Thompsons, who lived near Randalstown.
I know it will be a long shot but I hope a living descendant spots this posting.

James Thompsonís will is on the PRONI wills site. He left his farm in Ballygrooby to John Hoey.

Probate of the Will of James Thompson late of Ballygrooby Randalstown County Antrim Farmer who died 20 February 1905 granted at Belfast to Robert M'Fadden and William M'Fadden Merchants.

But I donít see him there in the 1911 census, so suspect he sold it on.

Samuel born 28.12.1872 is shown on one tree on Ancestry as having died on 26.11.1875.
