Wilson family Query
« on: April 28, 2020, 10:44:39 AM »
HI all,
I'm hoping for some help in finding out birth / marital records for family history purposes for my 3 x great granparents.
James Wilson ~1832 - 1877 (died Belfast) and Eliza Wilson (unsure of maiden name) 1839 - 1897 (died Belfast).
I've been stuck for some time.
Help appreciated.
Thanks,John

Working from Eliza’s death cert.
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_returns/deaths_1897/05858/4660407.pdf
Shows age at death as being 58 so birth of 1839 seems on the mark.

At the moment I cannot see a marriage between a James Wilson and an Eliza who were possibly RC if we go by the marriage listed below of their daughter Eliza. However, there may have been a mixed religion marriage.
There are marriages between a James Wilson & an Eliza Cherry, also one between a James Wilson and an Eliza Millar, needs further investigation.

Present at death was son in law, J. Meehan
Then looking for a marriage between J Meehan & a female with surname of Wilson
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1890/10713/5905766.pdf

The marriage cert shows the Father of the bride, Eliza Wilson as being James Wilson, deceased , a Labourer. Marriage took place in St Peters RC

Note, as usual ages were never to be relied on as “true”. Eliza’s only differs by 6 years in a 10 year Census 🧐

Stayed living in Baker St

Lennon & Wylie shows Meehans living at 43 Baker St & Eliza Wilson @ 63

https://www.lennonwylie.co.uk/bcomplete1890.htm

1880 Directory shows Meehans still at 43 But no Eliza at 63. However there is a Elizabeth Wilson living at 60 which is a possibility. ( trying to pinpoint James year of death)

1877 Directory , Merchant still there and this time a James Wilson living at number 19. A flax dresser.
If we go back to the marriage of Eliza & John Meehan it shows  Eliza’s Father as. Labourer so at the moment not 100% sure that it is the same James Wilson who you are seeking. If it is him then we can pinpoint his death to between 1877 & 1880

It’s a pity that you did not indicate that you asked a similar question with a different thread in 2019 and got some answers

Hi Joe, my great and 2 x great grandafathers were both John Meehan. James and Elizabeth Wilson were both my 3 x great grandparents. That's as far back as I've been able to get.
Youre likely a cousin / 2nd cousin of my Dad?...
If you PM me your email address I can sent you what I have so far on ancestry.
Thanks,John
