Clements of Serpentine Gardens
« on: May 06, 2020, 12:57:15 PM »
Good dayHenry Clements (joiner) and then James Clements (fitter) were at 28 Serpentine Gardens in its early days, 1930s/40s. There was also a Dahlia Clements of the same address - does that unusual name ring any bells? They may be linked with shipyard Clements or the many Clements further north in Antrim, but I don't know, and I'd like to know as I still have one of Dahlia's trinkets.cheers

Thank you Jim -I had got as far as Henry (the joiner) in 1939 and James (the fitter) in 1943, with both apparently gone by 1949 (when there is a different occupant, Mr Armstrong). Houses are often advertised there, new or newish, at attractive rents, from 1935. Plantation Street (where the father William John is a joiner) looks more likely than South Circular Road / Strandtown where the occupations are wrong. I hoped James might be the international-standard bowls player from the Cavehill club, but I think not :-)    Yes anyone living today is the wrong generation (or 90+). All I have is a little bracelet / plate, hand-engraved with name and address; it's the Dahlia name that strikes you.

Why not contact the Dahlia Clements on Twitter to see if she is related to the Dahlia you are interested in?
