The RAF, Royal Air Force, was founded 1/4/1918 and was a merge of the Royal Flying Corps & Royal Naval Air Service which operated during WW1

The article below MAY NOT be the William that you seek but at this early stage there is a possibility that it may be him.  if not it’s still a good read.

I believe that the above newspaper cutting IS the William that you are seeking and that he had 2 Military parts to his Service. . once before WW1 and the in 1918 changed to RAF

The birth date of a time 1890 is not unusual.  it is very common for dates not to be accurate.  take a look at the name Charlotte on the RAF enlistment and note the date on this one as it indeed is 1888 which is probably the correct one.

My theory is that William joined the Army in 1908 pre WW1.  served and was injured , Bullet word to hand... Married Charlotte      lived in Eureka St.  then joined RAF in 1918.

These are incredible finds thank you so much! How do you locate things like this online? Ive been building my family tree, and Im okay at it, but I've never found anything like the newspaper article you posted!

I believe this is my great grandfather, I know we have ties to Eureka. I have his sister passing away at 32 Eureka in 1921, and when William was 21 and married to Charlotte, he also lived at 32 Eureka. I'm curious if they moved in next door or across the street, as both of those articles say 33, and the info matches in other ways...such as children's names.

When I look at the item below, and see 33 Eureka (Same as the articles address) those are some of his children's names and dates of birth I have on my ancestry tree, which I believe is correct as my dad, his grandson, has confirmed some of the aunts names.

I can't wait to show him. He said his grandfather never spoke of the war. Lets hope this is the William George I've been looking for!
