recommendations for somewhere to stay in Belfast
« on: March 28, 2008, 02:01:00 PM »
??? my other half and i are planning to stay for a few days in Belfast (september) and would appreciate some recommendations.  we would like to stay centrally in a pub rather than a hotel..  we like jazz, blues music - so would like to know of some venues and also some good restaurants - not posh though.  we are celebrating our 25th anniversary and want a lively few days with plenty of crack. :D

Hi beatbeat,

Welcome to the Forum.

That's a great question. I'll have to put on my thinking cap.

I can't think of a pub where you can stay in central Belfast but can recommend an old coaching inn or two ... settle for three ...

1. The Crawfordsburn Inn www.theoldinn.com
2. The Dufferin Arms, Killyleagh www.myspace.com/motherfolkermusic
3. Denvirs Hotel, Downpatrick www.denvirshotel.com

If you don't want a hotel and don't want to waste time travelling back and forth to Belfast then a B & B in the city is probably the best bet.

Hello beatbeat,

I've sent a query to www.gotobelfast.com to see if they know of any Belfast pubs providing accommodation. I also sent you a PM as Adele at the Dufferin Arms in Killyleagh suggested that she could send further details to you. In addition to the fine hostelry which provides fine food and good ale and wine Adele runs a music promotion business so she'd have no problems telling you about gigs.

For all I know some of the Belfast MySpace musicians, or their relatives, may run a hostelry where visiting musicians stay when they are in Belfast.
