I only know him by reputation. It seems he kept a pet lion and lived in the north of the city. Who has got thebest memory?

You are right about the lions heather
His name was Alexander Robinson and I believe he lived off York St
He ended up in the USA NYC and was involved in bootlegging for a while. Eventually things became too hot here ,with the mobs and he went back to Belfast
I know some other stories about him but I cannot put them in print
However he was quite a character

You are 100% right about the cats and dogs.  Seems like the lion liked his meat very rare.
BTW Buck also spent time in the windy city before NYC . The reason  he went to NYC because "Big Al " was moving up the ladder and was taking no prisoners of any sort
However I heard from a good source that he ran foul with the "Westies" in "Hells Kitchen," in NYC and that is when he went back to the Oul Sod as fast as he could

Have you heard the story of him applying for his dole money in Belfast and was turned down?
The then  Ex D.I Nixon of the RUC ended up in a very precarious position, due to a statement made by the "Buck. "
Without going into the details I can tell you  that Buck got his dole money that day

Drinking in lavery's bar in the late 80's and early 90's we used to meet some women tapping you for money, that claimed to be his mother.  We never questioned it, just gave her a few bob.
