Belfast Hardmen

Remember the term "Hardman" (Street Fighters)
Well there were quite a few in Belfast and here are just a few who I recall
Silver Mc Kee, Stormy Weatherall, Frankie Drain, Seamus Doyle, who had ove eye and wore a black patch
 Buck Alec and Bo Bradley
Anyone know these legends, or others and do you have any stories on them ?

SEAMUS DOYLE LOST HIS EYE DURING A FIGHT WITH A GYPSY. NO NAMES MENTIONED HERE.  I WAS IN THE SHOTS CLUB MIDDLE 50S.  ONE MAN VERY QUIET, THREE WELL KNOWN  BROTHERS AND TWO MATES STARTED TO SHOW WHO THEY WERE.   TOUGH FELLAS SO THEY IMAGINED . THOUGH THEY COULD HAVE HANDLED THEMSELVES. WELL TO THEIR SORROW THEY PICKED ON THIS QUIET MAN . HE DIDNT HALF SORT THEM OUT. AFTER THAT THEY SHOWED THERE RESPECT TOWARDS HIM.

Arkie
I think I know who the brothers are
They were NOT what I regard as Belfast Hardmen
If it is the same family ,did they also have cousins, who participated in their "gang -Like" bullying tactics
These Bullys (If the Same) never fought on thier own, but always had backings
If again, it is the same group, Then one member of the group, did try to beat someone by himself in England and ended up dead RIP
Am I right Arkie ?

Arkie
Sorry to say, but Seamus Doyle did NOT lose his eye to a fight with a gypsy
He had a corrective operation on his eye and thereafter it bothered him in the Belfast weather . So he wore a patch

Hiya Folks,

Me again :D

Blair Mayne, DSO 3 bars, Legion D'Honneur and Croix De Guerre with Palm.  He was also known as Colonel Paddy. He was a founder member of the SAS and a member of the Irish rugby team in the 30s. Never mind coming from Newtownards to remember the man. I understand that last year some Members of Parliament discussed the possibility of a VC being added to his honours.

I heard a story about Blair Mayne coming out of Mooneys of Cornmarket after a drink or two. Silver McKee and Stormy Weather were going at it hammer and tongs. Blair Mayne took the pair of them by the scruf of the neck, banged their heads together and deposited them on the ground.

Keep the stories coming. Belfast was full of great characters.

Great pic of Seamy RIP
I have a book on Tullylish parish in Laurencetown Banbrige and I believe there are some Doyles mentioned in it
I paid a visit to the Chapel and was able to trace my family back to 1833 in about 15 minutes
I will look up the book and send you the info.on any Doyles
