Danny Blanchflower Stadium
« on: April 06, 2009, 05:21:26 PM »
Eight and a half years ago there was a lot of protest and talk about the Danny Blanchflower Stadium. Campaigning had been going on for years before then to have a huge stadium and soccer school on the site. At the end of the first week in October 2000, Michael McGimpsey (the Sports Minister), said that he supported a scheme for a multi million pound hotel and leisure centre on the Blanchflower site. What happened to those plans? They appear to have been reversed and now there's going to be a football stadium on the site. Why could that decision not have been reached in the first instance.

i was only talking about Danny on Saturday to my grandson. i was wondering why we don't  have anything named after him. It's such a shame too. Those of us who remember him do so with great pride.

Where is the site for the proposed stadium. :)
I'm patient with stupidity but not with those who are proud of it ...

The East Belfast Stadium suggested at the end of March this year will be on a 90 acre site beside the Blanchflower Stadium

The City of Belfast Stadium (suggested in 2005) www.cityofbelfaststadium.com
